After George Louthan bought his first Cadillac, a sleek black, 1948 Cadillac 61 series Club coupe, he never looked back.
“I have had a desire for Cadillacs ever since I owned one in 1958. I have owned other cars through the years, but have owned a number of Cadillacs,” the 78-year-old Toledoan said.
That Cadillac, now owned by Robert Stahl of Samaria, Mich. (Louthan sold it in 1958), along with one of three cars Louthan currently owns, a 1976 Eldorado convertible, will be among dozens of cars on view at the Taylor Classic Cadillac Show on Saturday.
In its 15th year, the annual tradition will be held this year from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Taylor Cadillac, 6100 W. Central Ave., Sylvania Township. About 30 car owners have registered to show off their Cadillacs so far, and space is limited to 50, but usually more show up the day of the show, Louthan said.
Car enthusiasts can have a full weekend of classic car viewing if desired. On Sunday, Mustangs for Meals will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brondes Ford/Lincoln Maumee, 1511 S Reynolds Rd. That show, a fund-raiser to support Mobile Meals of Toledo, will feature more than 250 Mustangs.
The Cadillac show is sponsored by Taylor and by the Northwest Ohio Region Cadillac & LaSalle Club, of which Louthan is vice president.
The Cadillac and LaSalle Club, founded in Detroit in 1958, is an international club with more than 7,000 members worldwide.
The show has appeal to anyone interested in the classic car era of the American automobile, said Nick Marconi, marketing director for Taylor Cadillac.
“I think any car fanatic and some of the nostalgic people who like the older types of cars with the fins [will like the show],” Marconi said.
The car dealership feeds participants and guests, and best of show honors will be bestowed.
The show brings a few really unique motor vehicles, and this year’s lineup includes a restoration of a 1941 Cadillac convertible, and a 1939 Cadillac from Detroit, Louthan said, adding that there are usually some surprises on the day of the show. The show accepts any Cadillac manufactured between 1902 and 1999.
“We have had them as far back as 1907,” he said.
