HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Bowling Green State University claimed a 5-0 victory Saturday over Alabama-Huntsville in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.
The victory was the 100th for Chris Bergeron as coach of the Falcons, who split their weekend series with the Chargers after losing 7-5 Friday.
Bowling Green (20-12-6, 16-7-5 WCHA) scored goals in all three periods to post its second 20-win season in a row, the first for the program since the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons.
BG scored at the 12-minute mark of the first period on a power-play goal by Brett D’Andrea.
The Falcons took a 3-0 lead in the second period on goals by John Schilling and Stephen Baylis. Brandon Hawkins and Baylis notched goals in the third period.
Chris Nell finished with 24 saves in posting his fourth shutout of the season, tying the school record. Carmine Guerriero stopped 31 shots for the Chargers (7-21-6, 5-17-6 WCHA).
The Falcons, who finished third in the WCHA, will host Bemidji State in a best-of-three first-round league playoff series starting Friday at the BG Ice Arena.
