Area women gather to meet Justice McGee Brown, Mercy CEO Price

Area women gather to meet Justice McGee Brown, Mercy CEO Price

A meet/greet for area women was hosted July 5 by Debbie Barnett, Phyllis Crockrel, and Laneta Goings, at her home.

Guests of honor were Justice Yvette McGee Brown of the Ohio Supreme Court and Andrea R. Price, Mercy president and chief executive officer.

The ladies-only event was a casual and relaxing soul food gathering, Mrs. Goings said. Women were invited to fill in the blank after "Women Are ..." and also were asked to bring their business cards to be included in a resource directory to be compiled.

A special reception was held recently in the lobby of Toledo Children's Hospital to recognize Ramy and Faye Eidi for their $50,000 contribution to the hospital. Mr. Eidi, owner of Eidi Properties, said the gift is in memory of his father, Mehdi "Danny" Eidi, and it will be used to purchase warming equipment for the newborn intensive care unit.

Doing the honors at the ceremony were Kevin Webb, president of Toledo Hospital and Toledo Children's Hospital; Dr. Howard Stein, pediatric pulmonary physician in the intensive care unit, and Rita Mansour, chairman of the Toledo Children's Hospital Foundation.

The Junior League of Toledo hosted the annual Mary Harriman Awards Luncheon recently at the Toledo Club. The 2011 award recipients were announced May 16 during the league's annual meeting, but this was the official celebration to honor active member Laura Robinson of Maumee and sustaining member Marna Ramnath of Sylvania for their long-term commitment to community service.

Ms. Robinson is president of the board of the ProMedica Toledo Hospital and Toledo Children's Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteers at St. Joan of Arc Church, Professional Education Organization, Mothers of Preschoolers, and the McAuley High School Alumnae Association.

Ms. Ramnath is on boards for ProMedica Parent, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Toledo School for the Arts, the Miniger Foundation, and the University of Toledo Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women.

The Junior League of Toledo created the Mary Harriman Award in 1997 to honor one active and one sustaining member each year for their significant volunteer service, which was the goal of Mary Harriman, the founder of the Junior League in 1901.
