BOWLING GREEN — Two members of the Bowling Green State University hockey team won weekly honors from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, the league announced Monday.
Senior forward Tyler Spezia was named offensive player of the week, while freshman forward Brandon Kruse was named rookie of the week for the second week in a row.
Spezia had three goals and four points, as the Falcons swept a two-game series at Lake Superior State. He scored the third goal of the second period and later added an assist in Friday’s 5-3 victory, then had two goals — including the game-winner — in Saturday’s 3-2 win.
Kruse had four points, tied for most among WCHA players, in the sweep of the Lakers. He scored what proved to be the game-winner Friday night, then assisted on all three goals Saturday.
Kruse is the fifth Falcon freshman to be honored this season, as BG has claimed this honor nine of the 15 times it has been awarded. Goalie Eric Dop has won the award four times, while Connor Ford, Max Johnson, and Cameron Wright have each been honored once.
Bowling Green (16-8-6), now ranked No. 14 in the latest USCHO.com poll, will host Michigan Tech at the Slater Family Ice Arena at 7:37 p.m. Friday and at 7:07 p.m. Saturday in the final home games of the regular season.
