ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Ohio State men’s hockey team raced out to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 4-2 victory against the Princeton Tigers in a Midwest Region first-round game Saturday at PPL Center.
With the win, the fifth-ranked Buckeyes (25-9-5) advance to a quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. Sunday against Denver (23-9-8). The Pioneers routed host Penn State 5-1 in their first-round game later in the day.
Ohio State got first-period goals from Mason Jobst and Kevin Miller, then third-period goals from Tanner Laczynski and Freddy Gerard. Laczynski and Gerard each had two-point games.
Sean Romeo finished with 23 saves for the Buckeyes.
MICHIGAN 3, NORTHEASTERN 2
WORCESTER, Mass. — Cooper Marody scored his second goal of the game with 4 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in regulation as the Wolverines beat the Huskies in a Northeast Region first-round game at the DCU Center.
With the win, Michigan (21-14-3) will play Boston in a quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Sunday. The Terriers beat Cornell 3-1 in their first-round game.
Dexter Dancs also had a two-point goal for the Wolverines, who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Northeastern (23-10-5) came back to tie it each time.
Hayden Lavigne tallied 19 saves for Michigan.
