Toledo native Chris Darrington has decided to transfer to the University of Toledo men’s basketball program after spending last season with the Tennessee Volunteers.
Darrington played in 25 games off the bench for Tennessee last season in his only year with the Vols, averaging 2.6 points per game in just 8.4 minutes per game. He battled an ankle injury early in the season and reached double figures only once when he tallied 11 points in a Dec. 9 game against Lipscomb.
“I just wanted to come back and finish my college career playing for my hometown city,” Darrington said. “I’m very excited to come back to Toledo. They treated me with class throughout the recruiting process and hopefully we can bring a MAC championship to Toledo.”

The former Scott High School standout played junior college basketball at Vincennes University in Indiana after graduating from high school. At Vincennes, he was a JUCO All-American before transferring to Tennessee last year.
Darrington was a first-team All-Ohio performer and The Blade player of the year his senior season at Scott in 2014-15.

Because of NCAA transfer rules, Darrington will have to sit out the 2018-19 season and then will have one season of eligibility left, though he is planning to apply for a waiver through which he could receive immediate eligibility.
"We're really excited to welcome Chris home," UT coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "He can impact our program much more than just on the floor, though, because he means so much to the Toledo community."
