Former home health aide gets 30 months in prison in ID theft

A former home health aide convicted of stealing the identity of an elderly man has been sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to 30 months in prison.

Jamie Higgins, 29, whose last address was in Texas, pleaded guilty Nov. 3 to attempted identity fraud against an elderly person or a disabled adult.

Judge Ruth Ann Franks sentenced her Thursday.

Higgins admitted opening charge accounts using the identity of the 93-year-old victim. Authorities said she charged about $23,000 worth of items using the accounts.

A restitution hearing to determine the exact amount owed the victim was scheduled for Nov. 28.
