Judge: Steinfurth to remain in jail in lieu of bond

Judge: Steinfurth to remain in jail in lieu of bond

The mother of a missing 18-month-old girl will remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of bond, Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Gary Cook ruled today.

A defense attorney in court with Angela Steinfurth asked the judge for a supervised own recognizance bond because Mrs. Steinfurth has no prior record.

Mrs. Steinfurth nodded until the judge denied the request.

Judge Cook said the facts presented in court documents suggest that the obstructing official business charge warranted a bond of $100,000 with no option to post a 10 percent cash bond.

Mrs. Steinfurth is accused of some role in the disappearance of her daughter Elaina Steinfurth. The toddler was reported missing June 2.

Initially, Mrs. Steinfurth was charged with child endangering for allegedly knowing her daughter was seriously injured and not seeking medical attention.

Standing before the judge, Mrs. Steinfurth looked back into a crowded gallery and blew a kiss at her stepfather, Richard Schiewe.
