Retired officer faces new charge

A retired Toledo police officer facing multiple charges relating to a non injury shooting was indicted Thursday on a new charge stemming from the same incident.

Frank Ramirez, 59, of the 5900 block of Tetherwood Drive, was indicted for discharge of a firearm over a highway, a third-degree felony. He is to go to trial Aug. 29 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for attempted murder, felonious assault, obstructing justice, and tampering with evidence for allegedly assisting in a Dec. 26, 2014, attempt by John Clarke and Maytee Vazquez-Clarke to shoot and kill a woman in the 1300 block of Colburn Avenue in South Toledo.

The Clarkes, who entered into plea agreements in the case in May, are scheduled to be sentenced July 8.
