A Springfield High School student told a Lucas County judge this morning that she did not want a former math teacher who had a sexual relationship with her to get the maximum prison sentence.
Kyle McKinch, a former Springfield teacher who admitted he had sex with the then-15-year-old student, was to have been sentenced today but the hearing was postponed until June 20. He faces up to 20 years in prison and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks said she had not received and read a psychological report on McKinch, and defense attorney Jane Roman asked that his sentencing be postponed until she had.
McKinch, 28, of the 6000 block of Gettysburg Drive in Sylvania pleaded guilty April 6 to one count of sexual battery and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for the offenses that took place at his home and in his vehicle between Jan. 29 and Aug. 31, 2016.
McKinch, a University of Toledo graduate, taught at Springfield High School for three years beginning in 2013. He was teaching at Central Catholic High School this past school year but was fired April 6 after pleading guilty to the charges.
The victim said McKinch had taken responsibility for his actions and cooperated with the investigation, and therefore did not deserve the maximum sentence.
