OBJECT3da82799-2ece-4b61-aac9-3fdc7e9e2547A Toledo gang member involved in a shooting at a house where children were playing was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in prison.
Tyru McClendon, 21, of the 2000 block of Madison Avenue entered Alford pleas — not admitting guilt —June 26 and was found guilty by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation, and participating in a criminal gang.
A member of the Geer Gang Crips, prosecutors said McClendon and Robert Mathis III, 20, of the 1600 block of Ottawa Drive drove past an Acton Street house that was alleged to be associated with a rival gang member. They returned, and, prosecutors said, Mathis ran through the yard and fired shots toward the house then jumped back in the car which McClendon was driving.
Mathis entered Alford pleas and was found guilty of the same charges but subsequently filed a motion to withdraw his pleas. A hearing on that motion is set for Aug. 2.
