Former Toledo dentist sentenced to prison for income tax evasion

A former Toledo dentist was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months in prison for income tax evasion.

James M. Pelagalli, 61, of Richfield, Ohio, also was ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Jack Zouhary to pay a $20,000 fine.

Pelagalli pleaded guilty last year to income tax evasion for failing to pay income taxes over several years by concealing his income and assets from the Internal Revenue Service by using various business names. As part of the plea agreement, he agreed to pay $271,266 in restitution.
