The annual holiday light show at the Toledo Zoo is currently ranked the second among the best U.S. zoo light exhibits as voted by the public on the USA Today’s tenbest.com website.
Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo is in the lead and Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo is in the third place, out of the 20 qualifying light exhibits picked by USA Today. The once-per-day voting concludes Dec. 21, at noon.
The Toledo Zoo kicked off its 30th year of Lights Before Christmas on Nov. 13, with the lighting of an 85-foot Norway spruce tree. The light show, which runs through Jan. 3, is expected to draw tens of thousands. Highlights include Santa Claus, a three-lane ice slide, and carousels. There are also model trains, ice carvings, carolers, and food.
Hours for the holiday attraction are 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The zoo is closed today, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Admission is $12 for children ages 2-11 and seniors 60 and older, and $15 for ages 12-59.
