HOLLAND, Mich. — Michigan is expected to get two new advanced battery research facilities as part of a five-year partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy worth up to $120 million.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) joined other officials, including Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Friday to announce the project. She said one facility is planned for the city of Holland and the other for Ann Arbor.

The University of Michigan says it’s to get $7 million as part of the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, led by the Argonne National Laboratory operated by the University of Chicago. The Holland facility will be at Michigan State University’s Bio-economy Institute.
