Demolition work has begun on the former North Towne Square mall near the intersection of Alexis Road and Telegraph Road in Toledo. The mall, which was briefly known as Lakeside Centre before it closed in 2005, opened in 1980. Toledo City Council voted in late 2011 to allow the city to acquire the dilapidated property and tear it down. No plans for the site have been announced, but the city has been hoping to attract a buyer. The Super Fitness gym adjacent to the mall is a separate structure and will remain open.
