Farewell open house slated at Maumee school

Farewell open house slated at Maumee school

Maumee City Schools will hold an open house at Union Elementary School May 26 for residents to say farewell.

Union School, 102 East Broadway, will close its doors as part of a reconfiguration plan. Constructed in 1870, the building is one of the oldest functioning schools in Ohio.

Visitors can tour the building during the open house, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m.

There are no plans yet on what will happen to the building after the end of the school year.

School officials hope to find a new occupant for Union through sale or lease.

The school has an enrollment of 277 in kindergarten through fifth grade. Under the reconfiguration plan, the Maumee’s district is to have two K-3 buildings and one for grades 4 and 5.
