6 to be inducted into hall of fame at Woodward

Six new members are to be inducted into the Woodward High School Hall of Fame at a dinner at Inverness Club April 21.

They are:

John "Jack" Kesling of Toledo, class of 1947, a musician and television personality.

He wrote, hosted, and produced a children's television show called Mr. T that was broadcast from 1961 to 1970. He also produced and directed many other shows. The musician performed with the Four Keys group.

Chuck Janowiecki, class of 1961, lived in Temperance and died in 2010.

He was an involved member of the Woodward Hall of Fame Committee from 2005 until his death and led the panel the last two years of his life. He was a dedicated leader who gave generously of his time and effort. His words were "Remember, you're always a Polar Bear."

James E. Funk, Jr., of Maumee, class of 1965, is the former owner of a public relations-marketing firm.

He owns J. Funk Consulting and works with urban school systems in parent involvement and customer service. He heads the local Read for Literacy program and has served on many boards.

Martin Blaszczyk of Toledo, class of 1971, who has worked to make life better in North Toledo.

In the 1970s and '80s he was an officer, coach, and parade chairman for the 4th Ward Old Timers Baseball Association and helped restart the 4th Ward Dartball League. He also helped organize the first Polish Festival in the Lagrange Street neighborhood and remained a volunteer for 10 years. He is editor and writer of the Lagrange Street News.

Kirk Heidelberg of Rockford, Ill., class of 1976, assistant football coach at the University of Toledo under coaches Nick Saban and Gary Pinkel. He coached 10 years in the German Football League and twice was named coach of the year. He's athletic director of Rockford Christian High School.

Emilyn L. Jakes of Toledo, 15 years a media specialist at Woodward and 36 years in education, made a difference in the lives of thousands of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Tickets are $45 and are available from Michelle Jacob at 419-474-2131. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails. Dinner is at 6:15 and induction at 7:45.
