A Bowsher High School teacher has been suspended for an alleged sexual relationship with a student.
Jennifer Kuhlman was suspended with pay on Tuesday after district officials received a report alleging she had been in an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to TPS. The student is now 18 and is a graduate of Bowsher, but the accusations stem from last year when the boy was still a student at the school, district Chief of Staff Brian Murphy said.
Ms. Kuhlman is accused of, among other things, sexual battery, violation of district policy for staff and student relations, and unprofessional conduct. District officials said police have been notified.
This is not the first time in recent years that a TPS staff member has been accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Lewis Ackerman, former Bowsher dean of students, signed a consent agreement with the state earlier this year, agreeing that he would not teach in Ohio again after being accused of being in a relationship with a student during the 2012-2013 school year. He repeatedly denied the allegation, but TPS records show that he admitted to beginning a relationship with the student soon after she graduated.
He was fired and eventually dropped the appeal of his termination.
Christopher Dames, then the coach of Scott High School’s boys basketball team, was suspended in September after he was accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student. Soon after his suspension, he married an 18-year-old woman who graduated this year from the school, and he subsequently resigned from the district.
