A retired FirstEnergy executive is donating $500,000 to the University of Toledo college of engineering.

Gary Leidich’s alma mater announced the gift Tuesday.

Mr. Leidich retired in 2011 as executive vice president and president of FirstEnergy Generation and FirstEnergy Corp. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in engineering science from the university.

The donation will help create an energy engineering concentration as a graduate degree option.
