American Electric Power postpones bill increase

COLUMBUS — American Electric Power would postpone a proposal to increase its monthly billing fee by $10 per month as part of a wide-ranging settlement with state officials and others on a rate plan that would run through 2024.

The agreement is among AEP, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio staff, and more than a dozen groups representing businesses, environmental advocates, and consumers. A key participant, the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, did not sign onto the deal and did not have an immediate comment.

One of the hot-button topics was AEP’s request to increase the monthly billing fee from $8.40 per month to $18.40 per month, while making other changes to rates that would mitigate some of the increase.
