Festival celebrates Toledo's Sister Cities

Festival celebrates Toledo's Sister Cities

Take a round-the-world trip without leaving home at the 9th Toledo Sister Cities International Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 14. This celebration of cultural diversity will be held at the SeaGate Convention Centre, 401 Jefferson Ave.

Savor a wide variety of ethnic foods from some of Toledo’s sister cities, sample beers from many other countries, enjoy performances (music, dance, martial arts), participate in family-friendly activities, shop at vendors’ booths, try your luck at raffles, and learn a bit at language stations.

Advance tickets cost $5 and are available at toledosistercities.org or ticketmaster.com; at the Huntington Center box office, 500 Jefferson St.; or at Matryoshka Food and Deli, 4900 N. McCord Rd., Sylvania. Admission at the door costs $7, cash only. Students with I.D. and seniors can get $5 tickets, and children under 10 years old can attend free.

Signature EyEvent Gala

The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio invites everyone to attend its 7th annual Signature EyEvent Gala at 6 p.m. April 25 at the Pinnacle, 1772 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee.

The theme of this fund-raiser is Dining in the Dark: An Evening of Taste, Sounds, and Touch. Guests will have an opportunity to rely upon non-visual techniques and their other senses during a special dining experience in which they’ll be guided by a vision rehabilitation specialist. There will also be silent and live auctions, an exhibit of artwork produced by clients, and more.

America’s Best Recipe contest

Eggland’s Best is seeking the country’s best original egg recipe that features favorite local ingredients. And they’re offering a $10,000 grand prize, plus a year’s supply of eggs, to the winner.

Contestants can enter up to two recipes in each of four categories: breakfast/brunch, appetizer, main course, and dessert. Each entry must contain at least two whole eggs.

The deadline is April 30. After that, judges will choose semi-finalists based on the taste and creativity of entries. A public voting period will then determine the Best in State winners, who will receive an Eggland’s Best prize. From there, Best in Region recipes will be voted on; each of these winners will earn a $1,000 prize. And finally, from that group, the grand prize winner will be chosen.
