Demetrius Wimberly, 14, center, is comforted as he is arraigned on the charge of murder Wednesday, December 27, at Lucas County Juvenile Court in downtown Toledo. Wimberly is one of four boys charged in the death of Marquise Byrd, 22. Mr. Byrd was riding as a passenger in a car on Dec. 19, 2017, when the car was struck with a sandbag thrown from an overpass on I-75 in Toledo. To the editor: Parents also to blame in man’s death

Where were the parents?

When four boys in their early teens decided to destroy property and injure or kill someone by throwing objects off a bridge, why were they not at home or in bed at 10 p.m.?

At 13, 14, and 15 years of age, the boys’ parents must assume some responsibility for not being a “parent” and allowing their kids to roam and terrorize innocent people. They should be held accountable.

Kids left out of Christmas

During this entire Christmas season, I can’t remember seeing commercials on TV that featured kids and the toys and games they were hoping to see under the tree.

I’ve seen ads for cars, kitchen appliances, furniture, clothes, perfume, fine jewelry, and countless adult gifts. I can remember watching TV as a kid and dreaming about getting one or two of the toys I saw on TV.

Many people are concerned that Christ has been forgotten as the reason for the season. It seems as though children are being pushed aside as well.

Don’t complain if you break the law

So, how much more wailing and crying are we to endure from those motorists who are subject to fines for violating traffic laws?

The state has decided home rule allows municipalities such as Toledo to use handheld and stationary devices to ticket drivers who violate posted traffic speeds or who run red lights.

Admittedly, I too have received a notification that this far from perfect driver was photographed speeding through or entering an intersection under the red/amber control signal.

Yes, much to my chagrin, review of photographic evidence showed me to be in the wrong. Get over it. Stop your complaining, pay your fines, and start following the traffic laws. We’ll all be much safer.

Plenty of griping about President

A recent letter writer mentioned that he has not heard any negative remarks about President Trump in his social circles. He must lead a very isolated existence.

I overhear many disgruntled comments about the President and the direction the country is taking.

This is not fake news or an alternative fact, just an factual obversation.
