With the same three players sweeping the singles titles, Central Catholic repeated its team championship in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference girls tennis tournament last Saturday at Clay High School.
Coach Lisa Bialorucki’s Central team — which entered the tournament with 14 points from its 7-0 record in conference dual matches – added 14 more points for winning the tournament with a score of 38. The 28 total standings points enabled the Fighting Irish to top runner-up Notre Dame (24 points) for the overall TRAC team championship.
Irish sophomore Ava McQuillin repeated her title in No. 1 singles, taking a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Clay’s Mady Arquette in the finals.
Central junior Maverick Delp, who had won the TRAC’s No. 2 singles crown in 2015 and the No. 3 singles title last year, captured the No. 2 championship once again with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Notre Dame’s C.C. Patton.
Senior teammate Sophia Spinazze, the TRAC winner at No. 2 singles last year, won the title at No. 3 singles on Saturday, beating Notre Dame’s Emily Kelly 6-1, 6-0 in the finals.
In the doubles finals, the Notre Dame duo of Maddie Humbles and Gracice Bennett took the No. 1 title with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 finals triumph over Central’s Ellie Hire and Rachel Gorman, and Eagles teammates Julia Loeb and Allison Clark repeated their No. 2 bracket title by defeating the Central team of Callie Bremer and Lily Hoffman, 6-1, 6-0 in the finals.
Clay (20 points) placed third in the overall team standings, and St. Ursula tied Fremont Ross for fourth with 14 points.
