Senior forward Blake Powers ranks second on the Bowling Green hockey team in scoring with 49 points in just 20 games, with 29 goals and 20 assists.
He scored five goals against Mentor Lake Catholic on Dec. 15 and had five goals against Anthony Wayne on Dec. 28. Powers has tallied four goals in a game three other times this season.
A four-year starter, Powers has compiled 168 points in his career, with 84 goals to go along with 84 assists.
Powers has scored three game-winning goals for BG (8-11-1) this season.
The team captain earned honorable mention All-Ohio honors as a junior.
“His energy and passion for the game make him a threat every shift,” coach Eddie Powers said. “He has top-level speed and hands to assist and finish on goals. His physical play consistently disrupts the opposition.”
Eddie Powers, who is Blake's father, said the forward has a passion for the game and is a strong skater.
“That makes him a tough player to defend,” Eddie Powers said. “His conditioning and strength allow him to play 25 to 30 minutes a game.”
Bowling Green has just 15 players on its roster, so he plays in all situations. He is a key component on the team's power play and penalty kill.
Powers also played football for two years, ran track for three years, and also earned a varsity letter in golf.
He will attend Bowling Green State University and possibly play for the school's club hockey team.
“He is a player who is a true power forward. He plays a physical game along with creating scoring opportunities and finishing plays,” Eddie Powers said.
