ADRIAN, Mich. — A Michigan high school golf tournament briefly turned into a wild goose chase Saturday — literally.

Before teeing off at Wolf Creek Golf Course’s seventh hole, Concord High School’s Isaac Couling was attacked by a particularly territorial goose defending a nearby nest. Fortunately for the internet, Blissfield’s photographer Devon Pitts was around at the time of the incident, riding in a golf cart alongside her husband and assistant coach Raymond Pitts.
Blissfield’s athletic department tweeted out images of the incident, and that post has now reached over 31,000 favorites and 12,000 retweets.
“All of the sudden, from the bottom of the hill, here comes this goose from the right side and behind the golfers and started attacking,” Mr. Pitts said. “It was a fluke that we ended up being there. The whole thing transpired so fast.”
Mr. Couling wasn’t harmed in the attack — the only thing hurt was his pride, though he still shot for par on the hole.

Blissfield High School athletic director Steve Babbitt said the golfers were aware of the nearby nest, but did nothing to intentionally provoke any of the geese.
Mr. Pitts said his wife — who was unavailable for immediate comment — has made a hobby out of sports photography. She often donates her shots to the school yearbook, though she and Mr. Pitts have bigger plans for these pictures.
“We’re going to have this one blown up for Isaac, and we’ll make sure he gets a copy of it,” Mr. Pitts said.
