Oil refineries in Ohio and across the country are misleading the public about the Renewable Fuel Standards, and this deception was most recently on display in The Blade’s Sept. 18 article on the impacts of the standards on Toledo Refining Co.
I farm and have a retail gas station, where we proudly blend ethanol for customers eager to buy a product that is grown, processed, and sold right here in Ohio. We view this responsibility seriously because we know that every gallon of ethanol we sell, we are supporting local corn farmers.
The United Auto Workers and the American Lung Association also support the fuel standards because they know they create jobs and reduce harmful emissions.
Toledo Refining Co. made a business decision to not blend, and now they want the government to bail them out. As a small business owner, I make decisions everyday and have to stand by them.
Blended fuels are good for our country, good for the consumers, and good for the air we breathe.

How about cutting Hillary a break?

Look at records of candidates
I have read with interest letters in the Readers’ Forum relative to the mayoral race.
Whatever Wade Kapszukiewicz’s politics, he has done a phenomenal job as Lucas County treasurer for 12 years. There have been no hidden or lost funds, and he is responsible for introducing the land bank program, which has been important in resolving the vacant and abandoned housing issues.
He is a professional who seems to want to put his skills into running our city. The voters will look at both candidates and examine the capability and track records.
