Dei Fratelli joins chili cook-off team

Dei Fratelli joins chili cook-off team

The northwest Ohio-based Dei Fratelli line of tomato products is supporting Mobile Meals’ 23rd annual Great Chili Cook-Off by providing ingredients for teams to use in making their entries.

Amateur, corporate, media, and restaurant teams will compete for judges’ awards and people’s choice prizes at the popular fund-raiser. And Dei Fratelli, manufactured by the Hirzel Canning Co. and Farms of Northwood, is proud to support both the cause — feeding the home-bound and hungry — and those who are participating in the cook-off.

Carolyn Fox, associate executive director of Mobile Meals, says that the company originally approached her about a sponsorship, but decided that product donation would help the teams. Team members are grateful for the encouragement, and “think that this is a wonderful idea,” she said.

Hirzel is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated company that was founded 92 years ago. The Dei Fratelli line of products includes canned tomatoes, salsas, juices, and sauces.

The 23rd Annual Mobile Meals Great Chili Cook-Off will be 12 to 4 p.m. March 28 at the Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Admission is free. More information is on their website.

Hungarian pastries

The Lorantffy Society of Calvin United Church of Christ is selling handmade poppy seed and walnut rolls for Easter. These traditional breads, with a swirl of filling inside, cost $15 each. Only a limited number of the breads will be made, so customers are restricted to two per person and are encouraged to order early.
