Mud Hens pitcher Kyle Funkhouser, one of the top prospects in the Tigers organization, will miss the rest of this season after suffering an ankle injury.
According to the Tigers, Funkhouser suffered a fractured right foot when he "turned his ankle on an uneven sidewalk." Funkhouser will undergo surgery on the ankle and is expected to be ready for spring training in 2019.
The right-handed pitcher, the No. 7 prospect in the organization according to MLB.com, began this season with Double-A Erie, where he was 4-5 with a 3.74 ERA in 17 starts. Funkhouser, who was named to the Eastern League All-Star Game, struck out 89 batters in 89 innings with the SeaWolves.
Funkhouser was promoted to the Mud Hens after the All-Star break and made two starts for Toledo. He lost both starts and had a 6.23 ERA after surrendering eight hits and 10 walks while fanning seven in 8⅔ innings with the Hens.
