Auditions set for new UT choral ensemble

The University of Toledo department of music has announced the formation of a new choral ensemble, the Glass City Singers. The group will consist of young singers between the ages of 16 and 30. Members will be selected by audition; they are seeking the highest quality high school, collegiate, and young professional singers in the Toledo area.

Under the direction of Brad Pierson, the UT director choral activities, the ensemble aims to provide singers with opportunities beyond what is available to them at their home campuses: to assist them in their transition from students to young professionals in the performance world.

Rehearsals will be held weekly from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Center for Performing Arts. There is a participation fee for those who are selected to participate.

Auditions for the ensemble are set for 3 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 in the UT Center for Performing Arts. Interested singers must register for an audition at j.mp/2989RBZ. Singers must perform two pieces in contrasting styles, sight read in both major and minor keys, and demonstrate rhythmic proficiency. More information is available from Pierson at 419-530-4558 or at the new website for the ensemble, j.mp/2913wVw.

Brian Bogdanowitz, the organist at Gesu Catholic Church, will provide the accompaniment for the next installment of the Sound of Silents film series at the Toledo Museum of Art. On deck is Maurice Tourneur’s legendary 1918 silent film fantasy The Blue Bird. Combining spectacular costumes, lavish sets, and ingenious camera effects, the film takes two young children on an allegorical voyage that blurs the lines between the conscious and the unconscious.

Bogdanowitz will perform his original score on the Peristyle’s historic Skinner Organ. The free presentation begins at 7 p.m. July 21 at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe St. More information at 419-255-8000 or toledomuseum.org.

■ Thollem Electric and ACVilla are touring the lower forty-eight states recording new video footage of moments and places that they weave into an ever-changing film titled Silver Ochre: Who are US 2016. Through a series of “moving stills” accompanied by a live original soundtrack that evolves spontaneously, they seek to illustrate early 21st century America. The media experience will present their work thus far at 9 p.m. July 21 at the Toledo Museum of Art GlasSalon, 2445 Monroe St. Tickets and more information at 419-255-8000 or toledomuseum.org/calendar.
