National Weather Service says 3 twisters struck in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The National Weather Service says three tornadoes touched down when a series of storms produced strong winds, heavy rain and hail in Arkansas.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that weather service survey teams on Thursday identified small, short-lived twisters in Bee Branch in Lonoke County, a rural area about a mile south of Pocahontas in Randolph County and in Lee County, 6 miles west of Marianna.

The storms entered the state early Wednesday as upper level cold air collided with unseasonably warm, moist air.

Pope County officials say 18-year-old Michaela Remus died when a tree fell through the bedroom in the family’s mobile home north of Atkins. Remus’ 18-month-old sister, who was trapped in the wreckage with her and was injured, was released Thursday from Little Rock’s Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
