Lambertville Republican George Welling, a member of the Bedford Township Planning Commission, has announced his candidacy for Bedford Township trustee. Mr. Welling will join a field of eight other Republicans who will compete in the Aug. 7 primary.

Mr. Welling, 61, moved in 1988 to Bedford Township, where he has worked in the telecommunications industry. He ran for Bedford Township clerk in 2008 but lost to Democrat Bob Schockman.

His priorities as trustee would include improving roads, keeping a close eye on spending, and maintaining transparency in local government, according to a statement released by Mr. Welling.
