A full-time Northwood Local Schools teacher resigned Thursday after he was one of eight men arrested Wednesday as part of a Toledo police reverse prostitution sting operation.
Brad William Morrison, 41, of 4601 Pickle Rd., Oregon, was a physical education and health teacher at Northwood High School. He was charged with soliciting, a misdemeanor of the third degree.
Friday, Mr. Morrison did not go to work, Northwood Superintendent Greg Clark said. Later, the school board accepted the resignation of Mr. Morrison, an employee since 1993. He was paid $62,024 in 2009.
The Prostitution Task Force of the police vice/narcotics unit initiated the sting, in which a female officer impersonated a prostitute and solicited men through an online advertisement.
The men met the female officer at a local motel and were arrested after an act and price was negotiated, police said.
Also arrested and charged with misdemeanor soliciting were Paul Tomanicek, 26, of 11530 Van Dyke, Curtice, Ohio; Thomas Patrick Logan, 42, of Connecticut; Richard Dean Hill, 47, of 2899 Consear Rd., Lambertville; Chris E. Campbell, 45, of 17544 Haskins Rd., Bowling Green; and Edward Andre Ellis, 59, of 610 West Parkway, Oregon.
Police also arrested Tyler Montrice Price, 25, of 1106 Steeplechase, who was charged with felony aggravated possession of drugs, possession of marijuana, felony promoting prostitution, and resisting arrest. Johnathan McNeal, 18, of the same Steeplechase address, was charged with felony promoting prostitution and misdemeanor soliciting.
The men were booked into the Lucas County Jail and set to appear in Toledo Municipal Court yesterday. Mr. Morrison was released after posting a $200 bond. He is to be arraigned March 31.
Mr. Logan pleaded no contest to a lesser offense of disorderly conduct recklessly by creating a condition that is physically offensive or presents risk and was fined $100.
Also entering a no contest plea was Mr. Ellis, who was given a 60-day suspended sentence in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. He also was ordered to pay fines and court costs.
The other defendants have future dates in municipal court.
If convicted of soliciting, the men face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 maximum fine.
Police Chief Mike Navarre said police used the Web, specifically sites such as Craigslist, for the sting.
