An arson investigator was called to two fires early today reported two minutes apart in vacant East Toledo buildings that are a quarter mile apart.
Firefighters were called to 1401 Greenwood Ave. at 3:11 a.m. They arrived at 3:16 a.m. to find heavy fire in the vacant, boarded-up house near White Street. The fire was declared under control at 3:53 a.m., but crews remained on the scene hours later.
A firefighter was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after twisting his ankle at the blaze about a half hour after firefighters arrived on the scene.
At 3:13 a.m., firefighters were called to 645 Berry St. The blaze on Berry was smaller; it was declared under control at 3:27 a.m. and firefighters left within an hour.
