The Summit/Cherry intersection, closed since early morning because of an underground electrical fire and explosions in a Toledo Edison vault, reopened shortly after 4 p.m. today, as did the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge.
Several lane closings remain in place at the intersection while Toledo Edison continues repairs to its electrical system. The right lane is closed on eastbound Cherry approaching Summit, as is the right-turn lane from Cherry to southbound Summit. One of two left-turn lanes is closed on northbound Summit at Cherry and coming off the MLK Bridge to southbound Summit.
Power is on to all customers in the area. City crews established a bypass electrical feed to power the traffic lights at Cherry and Summit.
