DELTA -- A fire started today in the bus garage of the Pike-Delta-York Local Schools.

One school bus was parked inside the Fernwood Street garage, where the district also stores custodial equipment.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department said they received an initial report the garage was engulfed in smoke, but upon entry responders found a fire.

Superintendent Jay LeFevre said some flames were visible coming out of the building, but it appears the fire is under control.

Mr. LeFevre said no one was inside the structure when the fire started.

He said it’s difficult to assess the damage immediately, but it appears “pretty extensive.”

Fire departments who responded to the scene included Delta, Swanton, and Lyons.
