Woman, 76, killed in collision with semi in Van Wert County

VAN WERT, Ohio -- A woman who drove into the path of an oncoming semi tractor-trailer in a rural part of Van Wert County today was pronounced dead at the accident scene, the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Van Wert said.

Carole B. Dunaway, 76, of Centerville, Ohio, was heading north on U.S. 127 near Walnut Grove Church Road in Van Wert County's York Township about 12:20 p.m., when she crossed the center line in her car and collided with the tractor-trailer head-on, the Highway Patrol said.

The crash site is about six miles south of Van Wert.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Ben A. Bernard, 69, of Zanesville, Ohio, who was heading south. He was treated for minor injuries at Van Wert County Hospital.

The OHP said both drivers wore seat belts.
