BOWLING GREEN -- A man who escaped Wednesday evening from a minimum-security prison near Bowling Green was recaptured today in the apartment of the woman he had been convicted of assaulting -- a woman now accused of helping him hide.
Jhon Rosado, 24, was found hiding in an apartment in the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue that is occupied by Bobbie Merritt, 29, whom Mr. Rosado assaulted at her home May 17 -- the crime for which he had been assigned to a special domestic-violence program at NorthWest Community Corrections Center following his Sept. 9 sentencing for fourth-degree felony domestic violence.
Ms. Merritt is now charged with one count of harboring a fugitive, a fifth-degree felony, and was to be booked into the Wood County jail pending arraignment.
Rosado was taken to Wood County Hospital with a foot injury that Bowling Green police said he suffered when he jumped from the fence at NWCCC after climbing atop it Wednesday night. He was to be transferred to the county jail and charged with one count of escape following medical treatment.
A police statement said investigators learned after Rosado fled the privately operated, state-funded prison on East Gypsy Lane Road that he and Ms. Merritt had spoken by telephone before his escape and he advised her of his plan. He also was observed entering the apartment after the escape, police said.
He was recaptured without incident after police executed a search warrant at the apartment this evening.
Assisting in the search and apprehension were the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and the FBI Violent Crime Task Force, the Bowling Green police said.
