LIMA — One man was killed and another injured outside a Lima residence late Wednesday.
Shot dead was Jataven Dukes, 24, of Lima, police said. Markquis Hall, 25, also of Lima, was treated for a gunshot wound at St. Rita’s Medical Center before being released and subsequently arrested for aggravated burglary.
Lima police Major Chip Protsman said the deceased man and Mr. Hall went to 724 W. Eureka at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, although why, exactly, isn’t clear and a confrontation apparently broke out and shots were fired by someone inside the residence. There were numerous people inside the house; it’s not clear who was shooting or how many people fired shots.
Major Protsman said police were called to the same West Eureka residence two other times on Wednesday, once for a reported burglary and then later for a shots-fired complaint; in both of those incidents, the deceased and Mr. Hall were listed as suspects. On the third call to the house, police found Mr. Dukes and Mr. Hall suffering from gunshot wounds. Police declined to say where on their bodies they were shot.
Police ask that anyone with information call the Lima Police Department at 419-221-5264.
