A 19-year-old Lourdes University student reported she was drugged during a party at the university’s apartments.
Sylvania Police Capt. Rick Schnoor said the woman reported on Sept. 22 that the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Sept. 19 inside one of the buildings at Lourdes Commons, the university’s residential quarters at the corner of Brint and McCord roads.
Captain Schnoor said the victim felt ill while attending a party and that she received medical treatment. Although no one was physically injured, he said, a report of someone being drugged is considered an assault because the person was harmed.
The circumstances as to how she was drugged remained unclear, Captain Schnoor said. Sylvania Police did not indicate the victim had been sexually assaulted.
The university issued a text alerting students, faculty, and staff regarding the incident. The alert on Sept. 22 told students of the alleged drugging and warned to “use caution with your beverages when attending a party.”
Lourdes has issued a statement saying “there is currently an open Title IX investigation. The University takes very seriously its obligations in cases like this. Under federal law, since this matter is still pending, the university cannot release further information.”
University spokesman Heather Hoffman said this is an isolated incident, and that campus security patrol the grounds 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In accordance with federal law, the university is investigating the incident along with police.
Sylvania police do not have a suspect, and Captain Schnoor could not comment on whether the victim knew the suspect. The police report indicates the an “unknown person” attempted to harm another person.
