Montpelier man, 87, killed in 2-vehicle crash in Williams County

PIONEER, Ohio -- An 87-year-old Montpelier, Ohio, man was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash in Williams County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Lavon Joice was eastbound on U.S. 20 near Pioneer in a sport utility vehicle when the vehicle went left of center into the westbound lane, striking a truck driven west by Roger Cordray, 49, of Toledo, troopers said.

The crash was reported about 8:30 p.m. a half mile west of County Road 15.

Mr. Joice was pronounced dead at the scene by the Williams County coroner, troopers said.

Mr. Cordray was taken to Montpelier Hospital, troopers said.

Both drivers wore safety belts, according to troopers from the patrol’s Defiance post.
