Toledo teen killed after shooting on city's north end

Carter Coley was a senior at Woodward High School

A 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot Friday night in the city’s north end was a Woodward High School senior who played football for the school.

Carter Coley was found shot multiple times on a sidewalk in the 3100 block of North Ontario Street about 8:45 p.m., authorities said. Toledo Public Schools spokesman Patty Mazur has confirmed that he went to Woodward High School and played on the Polar Bears football team.

He was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said no arrests have been made. The case is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

An autopsy on the teenager is to be performed today by the Lucas County Coroner’s office.

Student board members of the City of Toledo Youth Commission held a news conference to ask for a stop to youth-on-youth violence in Toledo. Titled School to Prison Pipeline Conference "We Can Beat the Odds," the event is open to Toledo area youth.

This is the city’s 22nd homicide and 24th in the Toledo metro area this year.
