Police are attempting to determine what caused the death of 23-year-old Elizabeth Conklin, whose body was found by a resident in a yard along Elmont Road early this morning.
Sylvania Township Deputy Chief Ray Carroll said it did not appear the Sylvania woman committed suicide, but he said “nothing is ruled out.” Officers are awaiting autopsy results from the Lucas County Coroners Office, which are expected on Wednesday.
The woman’s body was clothed and showed no signs of blood when authorities arrived on the scene, he said.
Mr. Carroll said there was no apparent injury to the body when it was found by a neighbor at approximately 7:30 a.m. today on the 3200 block of Elmont Road, near the corner of Goodhue Drive. The neighborhood is located off Central Avenue, beside Wildwood Metropark.
Police records indicate the woman resides on the 7200 block of Winsford Lane in Sylvania. However, they are unsure if she was temporarily staying with a friend in the township neighborhood. They are questioning neighbors as part of the investigation.
Police are trying to determine whether the body was moved to the site or if the woman died where her body was found, on the grass near the curb next to a pile of tree branches. He said it is even investigating the possibility she collapsed while walking.
Goodhue Road resident Niki Snyder discovered the body while she was driving to work at 7:30 a.m.
“I was on my way to work and thought ‘oh my God, is that what I saw,’” she said. She said at first she honked her horn to alert the person to move from the road. When she pulled over, she found Ms. Conklin face down in the fetal position, and appeared not to be breathing.
Township EMS confirmed the woman was dead on the scene.
