Authorities probing Millbury house fire

2 adults, 1 child injured in blaze

The cause of a house fire that injured three people, including a young girl, in Millbury remained under investigation Thursday, authorities said.

A man suffered burns to his hand and his wife and daughter suffered smoke inhalation, Lake Township Fire Chief Bruce Moritz said. They were taken to a hospital and were expected to be OK, he said.

Their names, ages, and conditions were not released.

A family of five, a married couple and their three children, had escaped by the time fire crews arrived about 12:50 a.m. Thursday and saw fire coming through the roof and from the second-floor windows of a two-story twinplex in the 2700 block of Southpointe Drive, the fire chief said. It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control, by which time the twinplex was a total loss, he said. The other side of the structure was unoccupied.

The girl was on the second floor at the time of the fire, the fire chief said. She jumped out of a window without injuring herself, he said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family with shelter and other needs.

The fire did not appear to be suspicious, Chief Moritz said.
