NAPOLEON — State authorities today raided three northwest Ohio businesses on suspicion of illegal gambling, one in Napoleon and the other two in Bryan and Montpelier, Ohio.
Law enforcement agents conducted search warrants at the Petro 2 Truck Stop, 900 American Rd. in Napoleon and at two Cut Rate Tobacco shops, at 1121 West High St. in Bryan and at 1424 Whitaker Way in Montpelier, according to a written statement released by the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
As a result, agents issued administrative citations against Petro 2 Truck Stop’s liquor permit for seven counts each of acquiring, possessing, controlling or operating a gambling device; game of chance for profit or scheme of chance; operating a gambling house, and recklessly permitting public gaming. Criminal charges were pending, according to the report.
In Bryan and Montpelier, officers allegedly seized eight slot machines, a quarter push machine, and records and money “associated with the illegal gambling operation.” Once pending criminal proceedings are complete, authorities plan to present the administrative case to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission, according to the report. Possible administrative penalties include fine, suspension or revocation of the liquor permits.
Napoleon, the seat of Henry County, is about 40 miles southwest of Toledo.
