Three people were injured, one of them seriously, when an Oregon City Schools bus and a car collided head-on in Oregon today, setting the car on fire, authorities said.

Scott Myers, 35, of Toledo, the driver of the car, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, according to hospital spokesman.

One of the eight students on the Oregon City Schools bus was taken to ProMedica Bay Park Hospital, where the student was treated and released, according to Oregon police. The student’s name was not released. Ages of the students on the bus ranged from 10 to 15.

Jennifer Houle, 61, the bus driver, suffered minor hand injuries, according to police. It was unknown whether she sought immediate medical treatment, police said.

Police said Mr. Myers was driving west on Pickle Road near Mambrino Road about 7:10 a.m. when for unknown reasons he lost control of his car, causing it to cross the center line and drive into the path of the school bus, which was eastbound on Pickle. The bus driver took evasive action by applying the brakes and swerving right but was unable to avoid the impact, police said.

Immediately after the crash, the car caught fire, which was quickly put out with fire extinguishers, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
