A fire of an unknown origin destroyed two houses and damaged another one, leaving one person homeless in North Toledo early today, authorities said.
There were no injuries, Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said.
Fire crews arrived about 1:50 a.m. and saw a house at 1231 East Bancroft St. fully engulfed in flames, with two nearby houses, at 1229 and 1233 East Bancroft in close proximity and “threatened” by the blaze, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said. Firefighters attacked the blaze and had it under control in about 90 minutes, but not before it had spread to the other two houses, he said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the only occupant of the house at 1233 E. Bancroft, the spokesman said. The other two houses were vacant.
The houses at 1231 and 1229 were demolished later in the morning.
Lieutenant Hertzfeld put the fire damage at about $60,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Lucas County records list Linda Kaczmarek as the owner of the single-story, wood frame house at 1231 East Bancroft. It was built in 1887.
