Fire destroys vacant North Toledo home

A fire of a yet unknown origin destroyed a vacant house in North Toledo early today, authorities said.

There were no injuries, according to the Toledo fire department.

Fire crews arrived about 1 a.m. and found heavy fire at the house at 3025 Chase St. near New York Avenue. They attacked the flames and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes, by which time the house was a total loss, a fire dispatcher said. Firefighters then remained at the scene for about three hours, watching for hot spots.

What remained of the single-story house was razed later in the day.

Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage from the fire was estimated at $11,500, he said.

County records list Michaele Jeannette Wagner as the owner of the house. It was built in 1917.
