Vacant South Toledo duplex torn down after blaze

An arson fire destroyed a vacant duplex in South Toledo early today.

There were no injuries, according to the Toledo fire department.

An unknown person set the duplex on fire about 2:10 a.m., Toledo police said. Fire crews arrived and extinguished the blaze at  636 S. Erie St. by about 3:45 a.m., by which time the duplex was a total loss, a fire dispatcher said.

What remained of the two-story wood frame duplex was later torn down. Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said damage from the fire was estimated at $51,000.

Lucas County records list Ramon Sims as the owner of the duplex. It was built in 1887.
