BOWLING GREEN — A Wood County jail inmate was found dead early today, authorities said.

Westley DeWitt, 28, of Custar, Ohio was unresponsive at 4:56 a.m. Deputies and medical staff attempted to resuscitate him before calling for an ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the jail.

Officials said the preliminary investigation showed no signs of suspicious criminal causes. The Lucas County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

DeWitt was arrested Monday on a charge of drug abuse. His bond was set at $5,000.
