Two Toledo police officers promoted to sergeant

The Toledo Police Department today promoted two officers to the rank of sergeant.

Sgts. Kevan Toney, 30, and Brian Bortel, 41, were recognized during a ceremony at Toledo City Council chambers for their dedication to law enforcement.

Chief George Kral said he believes the rank of sergeant is the most important at the department. This supervisory role heavily influences the actions of officers, he said.

“You should know the next level of your career is going to demand a different you,” he said.

The chief encouraged Sergeant Toney and Sergeant Bortel to remain sincere and humble as they approach the new position.

“Because never forget, when the game is over, the king and pawns go back in the same box,” he said.
